Hi there! I’m Gerard - a current final year Graphic Design student at Ulster University

Having always had an interest in art and design from a young age, I started to pursue a career in graphic design at age 18 when I enrolled on a course at Belfast Met. This is where I was introduced to the world of visual communication and I instantly knew this was what I wanted to do.

Design Internship

After completing the 2nd year of my course at uni I spotted a job post from Walker Communications looking for a summer intern at their studio in Holywood and I jumped at the chance to apply as I had heard many good things (I promise it wasn’t just because of the beer Fridays and free biccies...) and here I am!

The team welcomed me in with open arms and I instantly felt comfortable, which was amazing - shoutout to Ciara for buying me a Red Bull that one time when I got ID’d trying to buy one at the tender age of 26...

Design Internship

I got to work on a wide range of jobs right off the bat; rebranding projects, social media visuals, campaign roll outs and even print design for clients such as Strategic Power Projects, Connswater Shopping Centre and Gordons Chemist.

I felt extremely lucky to have such a varied workload so early on. The consistent teamwork involved with the projects was invaluable also - getting to bounce ideas off eachother and to receive feedback from industry professionals is never a bad thing.

I'm glad Peter and Gav decided to take a chance on me as I honestly feel like I've gained a years worth of experience in my initial 3 months here. I'm very much looking forward to working one day a week at Walker Communications whilst tackling my final year at university.

I’m very much looking forward to tackling my final year at uni with everything I’ve learned.
